Due to the current REACH process in the European Union to ban the use of hexavalent chromium, it is necessary to substitute the chrome(VI) processes in the long term. As an innovative company, SAXONIA Galvanik GmbH has already rebuild some of its production lines in order to produce plastic parts completely free of chrome(VI) in parallel to the old process (see image). The deposition of the final layer from a chrome(III) electrolyte is already established on the market and it does not show any visual differences to the old process. The pretreatment, for ABS and ABS/PC as well as for polyamide, is now also realised at SAXONIA Galvanik GmbH for more than 15 % of the series parts. Sampling of existing serial parts can be done, normally without changing the parameters of the injection molding.
